Passport ready for Schengen
Your passport should meet the age, blank-page and validity rules that apply to the planned Dutch trip.
A practical guide for UK residents who need a Dutch Schengen visa — from the Netherlands online application form and UK eVisa evidence to VFS appointments, fees and the current decision timeline.
Independent support, not an official visa application. Or use the quick form on this page.

UK VFS centresBirmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester are listed by the Dutch government.
Earliest normal applicationA short-stay application can usually be lodged up to six months before travel.
Calendar days currentlyThe Dutch government is presently warning of a higher average processing time during peak demand.
Start with the passport you travel on, not the fact that you live in Britain. UK immigration status decides whether you can lodge the application here; nationality determines whether a short-stay visa is normally required.
British citizens can normally visit the Netherlands visa-free for tourism and other permitted short stays within the 90-days-in-180 rule.
If your passport nationality requires a Schengen visa, a valid UK visa, settled status or eVisa does not replace the Dutch visa.
For a multi-country trip, the Netherlands should be the sole or longest-stay destination, or the first entry when equal-length stays leave no other main destination.
For other destinations on your itinerary, see these country guides:
Six checks for a complete Netherlands visa file.
Your passport should meet the age, blank-page and validity rules that apply to the planned Dutch trip.
Your UK status evidence should show that you are legally resident here and eligible to submit the application in the UK.
Your dates, accommodation and purpose should make the Netherlands the correct Schengen state to examine the application.
Financial evidence should fit the trip cost and clearly show who is paying for the planned visit.
Travel medical insurance should cover the Schengen area and meet the required minimum medical and repatriation cover.
Use the Netherlands checklist for your actual travel purpose so any profile-specific supporting evidence is included before submission.
The Dutch checklist is evidence-led: identity, UK residence, ties, travel plans, money and insurance all need to support the same trip.
Do not rely on a generic checklist alone. Use the Netherlands checklist that matches your actual purpose of travel and profile.
The Netherlands uses VFS Global in the UK. The official Dutch guidance tells applicants to book appointments themselves and avoid unnecessary intermediary costs.
Use your own form so it has the unique code, then print and sign it.
Current Dutch guidance lists Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester for applicants living in the UK.
Submit documents and passport, answer questions about the trip and provide fingerprints if you are 12 or older.
VFS gives you a reference number after submission so you can follow the application status online.
Share the trip basics and we can help organise the application before your official VFS submission.
What you get from this enquiry
No payment is taken with this enquiry. If you want our help, we confirm the fee with you before any work starts.
Appointment availability comes first. The Dutch processing clock starts after the Consular Services Organization has received the required documents and passport.
A visa-centre slot can add time before the application is formally in the Dutch decision process, so do not build the trip around the decision estimate alone.
NetherlandsWorldwide currently warns that high application volumes can raise the average Schengen visa processing time to about 25 calendar days.
Further consideration, additional documents, consultation requirements or heavy demand can extend the decision period.
Some older or generic pages still quote a 15-day average. For planning, follow the current NetherlandsWorldwide waiting-time notice that is live when you apply.
The Dutch visa fee and VFS service charge are separate. Official euro fees can be converted at the rate used when you pay, and exemptions apply in some categories.
The VFS service fee is additional to the government visa fee. Optional VFS services cost extra and do not improve the chance of a visa decision.
NetherlandsWorldwide currently lists four VFS Global application centres in the UK: Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester. The application itself is assessed by the Dutch authorities, not by VFS.
The official Dutch page says these centres are for applicants who live in the United Kingdom. Book through the official VFS route and check the live centre details before travelling.
The Dutch process is straightforward when the form, residence evidence and trip story all agree. These are the gaps worth fixing before VFS.
The Netherlands tells applicants to complete their own online form so it receives the unique code used in the process.
For a multi-country trip, apply where you will spend the longest time, or at the first-entry state if equal stays leave no other main destination.
Where an eVisa is used, the Dutch UK checklist expects a printout of the status and the share-code letter, with sufficient remaining validity.
The live Dutch government waiting-time page currently warns of an average around 25 calendar days during high season, with some cases reaching 45.
The official tourism checklist asks for a travel reservation and explicitly says a paid travel ticket is not required for the application.
Answers to common searches about VFS Global, UK eVisa evidence, documents, fees, processing time and multi-country travel.
UK residence alone does not decide this. British passport holders can normally visit the Netherlands visa-free for permitted short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. A UK resident holding a passport from a visa-required nationality will normally need a short-stay Schengen visa before travelling.
The Dutch government currently lists VFS Global application centres in Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester for Schengen visa applications submitted by people living in the United Kingdom.
The NetherlandsWorldwide processing page currently warns that the average Schengen visa processing time may increase to 25 calendar days during high season. In some cases processing can take up to 45 calendar days. Appointment availability is a separate wait before the application reaches the Dutch authorities.
The standard visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, with no visa fee for children under 6 and other exemptions in some cases. VFS Global currently lists a separate €18 service charge for Netherlands applications in the UK.
Dutch UK checklists accept a printout of a UKVI eVisa showing immigration status together with the share-code letter where applicable. The published UK checklist wording says the eVisa should remain valid for at least one month after you leave the Schengen area.
You can normally lodge a Schengen visa application up to six months before the trip, and the Dutch government says to apply at least 15 days before travel. Booking earlier is sensible because appointment availability and processing time are separate.
The Dutch tourism checklist asks for a travel reservation or another document showing your travel plans and specifically says you do not need a paid travel ticket. Your itinerary, accommodation and dates should still be consistent across the file.
Apply to the country where you will spend the longest time. If the stays are equal, the Schengen rule is to apply to the country you will enter first. Do not choose the Netherlands only because an appointment appears easier to find.
