How we research and review our visa guides.

This policy explains how UK to Schengen selects sources, separates official facts from practical explanation, records review dates and handles corrections.

Research method

Country first, source first.

A guide is organised around the destination actually responsible for the trip, not around whichever appointment appears easiest to obtain.

  1. 01

    Map the application route

We identify the responsible authority, authorised submission provider, UK centre route and official application instructions.

  2. 02

    Cross-check important claims

Eligibility, documents, fees, timing and centre information are compared across relevant primary pages where available.

  3. 03

    Explain without changing meaning

Official information is reorganised into plain English while the linked authority remains the final source for the applicant's case.

Source hierarchy

The sources we prioritise. And how we use them.

01

Government and ministry pages

Used for law, eligibility, fees, application windows and national instructions.

02

Embassy and consular pages

Used for UK jurisdiction, local procedure, direct submission and mission-specific notices.

03

Authorised provider pages

Used for booking routes, visa application centres, service charges and attendance instructions.

04

European Commission guidance

Used for shared Schengen rules and application principles that apply across participating states.

05

GOV.UK travel guidance

Used as a supporting UK-facing entry check, not as a substitute for the destination's visa authority.

06

Commercial sources

Not used as the final authority for visa rules, official fees, decisions or appointment availability.

Review and corrections

Visible dates, clear limits.

Every country page shows the date on which its sources and key route were last reviewed.

  1. 1
    Scheduled and event-led reviews

Guides may be reviewed after official fee, provider, centre or process changes, as well as during planned maintenance.

  2. 2
    Material changes update the date

A review date is changed when the country guide and its official links have received a meaningful check.

  3. 3
    Corrections are investigated

Reports are checked against the relevant primary source before page copy or links are amended.

Who reviews the guides

Our guide reviewers.

Country guides are checked against the official sources listed on each page before the review date is updated.
