A passport meeting Schengen rules
Upload and later present a passport issued within the last 10 years, with two blank pages and at least three months’ validity after the intended Schengen exit.
A practical route for UK residents who need a Romania Schengen visa — confirm Romania is responsible for the trip, prepare the application and supporting evidence, submit the file through Romania’s official eViza portal, then attend the assigned consular appointment.

normal decision periodComplete applications are normally decided within the standard Schengen timetable.
possible extended reviewCertain cases can take up to 45 days under the Visa Code.
Romania’s eViza process still begins with nationality: the passport decides whether a visa is required, while lawful UK residence supports selecting a Romanian post in Britain.
British citizens can normally visit Romania visa-free for permitted stays up to 90 days in any 180-day Schengen period. Longer stays and residence require a different process.
Visa-required applicants using eViza should be resident in the UK and able to prove that status to the selected Romanian consular post, including digitally where relevant.
Use Romania when it is your only or main destination. For equal stays, apply to the country whose external border you cross first; appointment availability does not change competence.
Compare connected Schengen destinations:
Six checks to align before sending the eViza file and attending the consulate.
Upload and later present a passport issued within the last 10 years, with two blank pages and at least three months’ validity after the intended Schengen exit.
Provide current evidence that you legally reside in the UK. Use a UKVI share code or other digital-status evidence where applicable.
Create the short-stay application in Romania’s official eViza portal, complete the digital fields accurately and follow the signature instructions for attendance.
Provide transport and accommodation that make Romania the genuine main destination by purpose or length of stay.
Upload financial and UK-profile evidence that fits the applicant’s circumstances, then carry the requested originals to the Romanian appointment after validation.
Provide insurance valid for the complete Romanian and wider Schengen itinerary, with at least €30,000 for covered medical emergencies and repatriation.
Prepare the online scans, originals and copies requested by the eViza portal and selected consular post. Every date and name should agree across the form, bookings and supporting evidence.
Tourism, business, private-visit and family-member categories use different evidence. The Romanian consular authority can request additional documents or an interview.
Start online through Romania’s eViza portal. After the file is reviewed and validated, follow the portal instructions for the in-person consular appointment and biometrics.
Compare all Schengen stays and purposes before choosing Romania as the competent state.
Complete the official online file, select the competent Romanian consulate and upload the requested supporting documents.
Monitor the portal and email messages. The consular appointment is arranged through the eViza process after online validation.
After online validation, attend the Romanian post with the requested originals and copies and provide biometrics if due; eViza approval to attend is not a visa decision.
Share the trip basics and we can help organise the application before the official Romania submission.
What you get from this enquiry
No payment is taken with this enquiry. If you want our help, we confirm the fee with you before any work starts.
Romania adds an online-validation stage before attendance, so eViza review, appointment timing, consular assessment and passport return must be planned separately.
A Romanian short-stay application can normally be initiated within six months of the planned trip.
The standard 15-day decision period relates to an admissible, complete application received by the competent Romanian authority—not the first eViza upload.
Romanian authorities can extend examination when further evidence, checks or consultation are necessary, up to the applicable wider timeframe.
Official guidance says applications should normally be lodged at least 15 calendar days before travel. Leave extra time for appointment availability, document corrections and passport return; no return date is guaranteed.
Romania charges the common Schengen visa fee through its consular process. There is no external VFS service fee for the Romanian eViza/consulate route.
The eViza and consular instructions determine any reduced or exempt category. Confirm the collected currency, accepted payment method and refund conditions with the selected post.
Applicants use the official eViza portal and select the competent Romanian consular post. UK visa information is published for London and Manchester.
Create the application through eViza and follow the appointment instructions for the selected consular post. Do not attend without portal confirmation.
Romania’s eViza and consular route has details that generic Schengen checklists can miss.
UK immigration permission may support using a Romanian post in Britain, but it does not override the visa rule attached to the passport.
The general rule is to apply in the country where you legally reside. Bring current evidence of lawful UK residence.
The online eViza file starts the process but does not replace the validated appointment, originals and biometrics required at the consulate.
Romania must be responsible for the real itinerary. A London or Manchester appointment does not change destination responsibility.
The normal consular period does not include every day spent waiting for a slot, transferring the file or returning the passport.
Answers about eligibility, eViza appointments, UK residence, fees and timing.
Romania checks the nationality of the travel document. UK residence helps establish which consular post can handle the file but is not itself a visa exemption.
British citizens can normally visit Romania visa-free for permitted short stays within the shared Schengen 90/180 limit.
Start through Romania’s official eViza portal. After validation, follow the appointment instructions for the competent UK consular post.
Apply early but no more than six months before travel. The application should normally be lodged at least 15 calendar days before departure.
You must prove lawful residence in the UK. Check the selected consular post if your UK permission expires soon, because the exact buffer can depend on the file and travel dates.
A complete Romanian application normally follows the 15-day Schengen assessment period, with up to 45 days possible for detailed review. eViza validation, attendance and return time are additional stages.
The standard uniform visa fee is €90 and the fee for children aged 6 to under 12 is €45. Check the current collection currency and payment method before attending.
Only when Romania is genuinely the competent main destination, or the first-entry rule applies to equal stays. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason.
