A passport that meets the Schengen rules
The travel document should be signed, issued within the previous 10 years, contain at least two blank visa pages and remain valid for at least three months after the planned Schengen trip ends.
The Czech short-stay route from the UK is unusually simple geographically: current official guidance sends general applicants to VFS Global in London. The harder part is making the UK residence, itinerary, finances and supporting evidence agree before the file reaches the Czech Embassy.

Three questions decide whether this UK route is appropriate before the document checklist even starts.
British citizens can normally visit Czechia visa-free for permitted short stays. A non-British UK resident may still need a visa because the requirement follows the passport used for travel.
The current Czech VFS route requires qualifying UK residence evidence. A UK C-type visitor visa is not accepted as residence for a normal Czech Schengen application in London.
If the itinerary covers several Schengen countries, Czechia should normally be responsible because it is the main destination by purpose or length of stay. The supporting bookings should make that clear.
For other destinations on your itinerary, see these country guides:
Six checks that should line up before the London appointment.
The travel document should be signed, issued within the previous 10 years, contain at least two blank visa pages and remain valid for at least three months after the planned Schengen trip ends.
Current Czech VFS guidance accepts qualifying physical or digital Home Office status, including a share code where applicable. The permission should remain valid for at least one month beyond the intended Schengen departure.
The UK harmonised list asks for proof of a reserved return journey to the UK or onward travel. Czech VFS also advises applicants not to pay for flights or hotels before the appointment is secured.
Czech official guidance currently sets the benchmark at 1,565 CZK per day for stays of 30 days or less. The UK harmonised list also asks for nominative UK bank statements covering at least the previous three months.
Tourism files should show accommodation for the planned stay or sufficient means to cover it. Private visits may need host and relationship evidence, while business and other categories use their own purpose documents.
The policy should cover the whole intended stay across the Schengen area and provide at least €30,000 for qualifying emergency medical treatment and repatriation.
The Czech UK file is built around residence, reserved travel, accommodation, recent finances and evidence that you will return to the UK after the trip.
The current UK harmonised list sets the baseline, while VFS adds category-specific instructions. Use both before the appointment rather than relying on a generic Schengen checklist.
For general short-stay applicants in the UK, the current official path runs through one VFS Global centre in London.
Tourism, family or friends, business, conference, medical and other purposes have different supporting evidence. The purpose selected on the form should match the itinerary and documents.
The Czech Embassy in London directs general short-stay applicants to VFS Global. The current attend-centre page lists London only, so use the live portal rather than third-party centre lists.
VFS states that applicants, including children and infants, attend by appointment. Biometrics are collected where required and the file is accepted under the Embassy's instructions.
VFS is a service provider and does not decide the visa. The application is examined under Czech and Schengen rules before the passport is returned through the selected service.

Separate the London appointment wait from the legal decision period after the application is lodged.
The Czech Embassy states that a Schengen application can be lodged no more than six months and no later than 15 calendar days before the intended visit.
The normal Schengen processing period is 15 calendar days once an admissible application is lodged.
The decision period can extend where the authorities need a more detailed review, further checks or additional supporting documents.
Appointment availability is not part of the 15-day decision period. Book early, especially because the current official Czech UK route lists one general VFS centre in London.
The Schengen fee and the VFS service charge are separate. Sterling equivalents can change with the monthly exchange rate.
The Czech Embassy publishes the applicable GBP equivalent and VFS states that the visa fee and service charge may change with the exchange rate. Confirm the live amounts at booking and submission.
The current official Czech VFS attend-centre page lists London as the UK Visa Application Centre for general short-stay applications. The Embassy in London remains the competent Czech authority for the decision.
Some private websites still advertise Manchester or Edinburgh. Follow the live Czech Embassy and VFS pages: the current official VFS centre list shows London only.
Several common UK errors happen before the Embassy even examines the merits of the trip.
The Czech VFS UK attend-centre page currently lists London only. Do not rely on third-party pages that still mention other UK cities.

The current UK supporting-document rules require qualifying residence evidence to remain valid for at least one month after the intended Schengen departure.
The Czech daily benchmark matters, but the UK list also asks for nominative bank statements covering at least three months. Sudden figures without context can weaken the story.
Current Czech VFS guidance tells applicants not to pay for flights or hotels until an appointment is booked. Use reservations and the exact official checklist rather than unnecessary prepaid risk.

UK residence alone does not decide this. British passport holders can normally visit Czechia visa-free for permitted short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. UK residents travelling on passports from visa-required countries normally need a Schengen visa before travel.
