Travel document age, pages and expiry
For Iceland, the travel document should be less than 10 years old on entry, offer two blank pages and run at least three months past the planned Schengen exit.
For an Iceland trip from the UK, establish the passport’s visa requirement and Iceland’s responsibility first, then complete the government application before taking the evidence and biometrics to VFS.

UK VFS locationsThe current official route lists London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff.
normal decision periodThe ordinary Iceland assessment benchmark is 15 calendar days after a complete file is received.
possible extended reviewVerification, consultation or missing evidence can move an Iceland case toward 45 days.
An Iceland application starts with the passport, not the UK permit: nationality controls visa need, while lawful UK residence supports using Iceland’s UK submission network.
British citizens can normally visit Iceland visa-free for permitted stays up to 90 days in any 180-day Schengen period. Longer stays and residence require a different process.
A visa-required traveller should submit in Britain only with qualifying UK residence. Check the live Iceland route for the required validity beyond the proposed return date.
Use Iceland when it is your only or main destination. For equal stays, apply to the country whose external border you cross first; appointment availability does not change competence.

Use these six controls to connect the Iceland portal submission with the evidence taken to VFS.
For Iceland, the travel document should be less than 10 years old on entry, offer two blank pages and run at least three months past the planned Schengen exit.
Use lawful UK residence evidence valid beyond the trip. The UK route does not accept a C-type UK visitor visa; provide current UKVI evidence where status is digital.
Prepare the Iceland application through the current official route, then print and sign any form or confirmation required for the VFS appointment.
Provide transport and accommodation that make Iceland the genuine main destination by purpose or length of stay.
Show how the Iceland journey is funded with recent statements and evidence of UK employment, study, business activity or a genuine sponsor, as applicable.
Insurance must cover Iceland and the rest of the Schengen itinerary for every travel day, including at least €30,000 for qualifying medical care and repatriation.
Use the Iceland VFS category list to order originals and copies. The application, flights, Iceland accommodation, insurance and financial evidence should use matching names and dates.
An Iceland tourism file is not interchangeable with business, private-visit or family travel. Use the correct live category and supply any extra evidence or interview requested by the authority.
VFS receives the application and biometrics in the UK. The Icelandic consular authority assesses and decides the case.
Compare all Schengen stays and purposes before choosing Iceland as the competent state.
Complete Iceland’s official application route first and retain the generated form or confirmation needed for the in-person submission.
Use the Iceland VFS route for London, Manchester, Edinburgh or Cardiff and check live availability.
Take the Iceland checklist bundle to the selected VFS centre and give biometrics when required; courier or premium options have no bearing on the decision.
Share the trip basics and we can help organise the application before the official Iceland submission.
What you get from this enquiry
No payment is taken with this enquiry. If you want our help, we confirm the fee with you before any work starts.
The wait for an Iceland VFS appointment comes before the official assessment clock, and passport transport adds another stage after a decision.
Iceland short-stay files can normally enter the process within the six months leading up to the intended arrival.
The usual 15-day period begins only after the competent Icelandic authority has received an admissible and complete file.
Extra document requests, verification or consultation can extend an Iceland case, in some circumstances, to the wider 45-day window.
Leave additional time for appointment availability, document corrections and passport return. No return date is guaranteed.
The Iceland route combines the uniform euro visa fee with a separate VFS service charge. Recheck the pound conversion and any optional costs before booking.
A fee reduction or exemption depends on the applicant’s category and evidence; it does not automatically remove provider charges. Confirm payment and refund conditions on the Iceland VFS page.
The current Iceland VFS route lists London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Cardiff began accepting Iceland applications on 1 April 2026.
Iceland currently includes Cardiff alongside London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Verify the chosen centre’s address, category, hours and charges on the live VFS page.
Iceland’s UK route has details that generic Schengen checklists can miss.
Possessing UK immigration permission is not an Iceland entry exemption. Check the visa list for the nationality shown in the travel document.
Iceland’s UK channel is for qualifying residents; the published route does not accept a UK C-type visitor visa as that residence basis.
Completing the Iceland portal does not replace VFS intake, the supporting-document bundle or fingerprints when they are due.
Iceland must be responsible for the real itinerary. A convenient Cardiff, London, Manchester or Edinburgh slot does not change destination responsibility.
Slot searches, provider transfer and passport return sit outside the usual Iceland assessment period and need their own buffer.
Iceland-specific answers covering the online start, four UK VFS centres, residence, charges and assessment time.
The answer follows the passport nationality. UK residence may make a UK VFS centre the appropriate submission point, but it does not itself waive Iceland’s visa rule.
British citizens can normally visit Iceland visa-free for permitted short stays within the shared Schengen 90/180 limit.
Use the authorised Iceland VFS route. Its current centre list includes London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff.
The Iceland short-stay window normally opens six months before travel. Leave more than the minimum 15 days so an appointment and any corrections fit before departure.
Current UK-route guidance asks for qualifying residence permission that continues at least one month beyond the intended Schengen departure.
An admissible Iceland file is commonly assessed within 15 calendar days. A detailed examination can reach 45 days, outside the separate waits for a VFS slot and passport return.
The standard visa tariff is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6–11. The live VFS service charge and any chosen add-ons are additional.
Only when Iceland is genuinely the competent main destination, or the first-entry rule applies to equal stays. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason.
