Your passport fits the Schengen rules
Use a valid travel document issued within the last 10 years, with the required blank pages and enough validity beyond the planned Schengen departure.
A practical route for UK residents who need a Denmark Schengen visa — complete ApplyVisa first, use the correct VFS centre, prove legal UK residence and make the itinerary show why Denmark is genuinely the main destination.
Independent support, not an official visa application. Or use the quick form on this page.

Three checks decide whether the UK route is the right route at all. Denmark is unusually explicit about legal UK residence and about avoiding visa-shopping.
British citizens can normally visit Denmark visa-free for permitted short stays. Other UK residents may still need a Schengen visa depending on passport nationality.
VFS currently requires a valid UK residence permit. A UK C-type visitor visa normally means applying from your country of residence instead.
If several Schengen countries are involved, use the main-destination rules rather than choosing Denmark because a slot appears easier or faster.
For other destinations on your itinerary, see these country guides:
Six checks to settle before the VFS appointment.
Use a valid travel document issued within the last 10 years, with the required blank pages and enough validity beyond the planned Schengen departure.
The UK route normally requires legal residence rather than a short UK visit. Bring the current proof of your UK immigration status required by the Danish/VFS checklist.
Accommodation, internal travel and nights across Schengen should make it clear that Denmark is the proper mission for the application.
Denmark requires the online ApplyVisa application and visa-fee payment first. Print the cover letter and payment receipt for the file.
Travel, accommodation, finances and work or study evidence should all support the same dates, purpose and return plan.
Use travel medical insurance valid across the Schengen Area with the required emergency medical and repatriation cover for the full journey.
Denmark combines the standard Schengen file with a few UK-process details that are easy to miss: the ApplyVisa cover letter and receipt, proof of legal UK residence, an extra passport ID copy and previous passports.
VFS states that missing documents can normally be supplied by the applicant within five business days when requested, but the Embassy can still decide on the evidence available. Use the live checklist rather than relying only on a generic Schengen list.
Denmark has a clear sequence: ApplyVisa online first, then VFS Global, then Embassy processing. Reversing that order causes avoidable appointment and payment confusion.
Fill in the Danish online application, pay the visa fee and print the cover letter and receipt. The Embassy advises allowing up to 24 hours before booking VFS.
Choose the checklist that matches tourism, family/friends, business, conference, minors or the relevant EU-family route.
Attend the VFS Visa Application Centre with the passport, supporting documents and biometrics where required.
The consular processing clock starts when the Embassy receives and registers the application — not when the online form is completed or VFS first accepts the file.
Share the trip basics and we can help organise the file before the official VFS submission.
What you get from this enquiry
No payment is taken with this enquiry. If you want our help, we confirm the fee with you before any work starts.
Denmark separates VFS transport time from Embassy processing, so the date you hand the file to VFS is not the date the consular clock begins.
Complete the online form and fee payment, then allow up to 24 hours before booking the VFS appointment.
The Embassy currently says complete applications received after 8 September 2026 are processed in up to 20 days.
Current Embassy guidance says London needs one extra day each way; Manchester and Edinburgh need two extra days each way.
Cases that need further enquiries or referral to the Danish Immigration Service can take up to 45 calendar days. The Embassy also warns that a file reaching it less than 15 days before travel can be treated as inadmissible.
The Schengen visa fee is paid through ApplyVisa, while VFS charges separately for receiving the application and may add a mandatory regional courier charge outside London.
VFS lists the regional courier equivalent as £4.26 and says exchange-rate-linked charges can change. Special exemptions and visa-facilitation fees can also apply, so confirm the live fee page before payment.
The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently lists VFS Global centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. The Embassy in London processes the applications; the centre you choose mainly affects submission logistics and transport time.
Current Embassy guidance: add one extra day each way for London transport, or two extra days each way for Manchester and Edinburgh.
Denmark has several process details that generic Schengen pages often flatten or miss completely.
The official route starts with the Danish ApplyVisa form and online fee payment. The Embassy advises waiting up to 24 hours before booking VFS.
VFS normally expects a valid UK residence permit. A UK C-type visitor visa is not the standard basis for lodging the Denmark application here.
Danish authorities explicitly warn against visa-shopping. The itinerary must make Denmark the correct Schengen mission under the main-destination rules.
Current VFS guidance asks applicants to bring previous passports and an additional copy of the passport ID page for passport collection.
The consular clock starts when the Embassy registers the file, and transport time varies between London and the regional centres.
Answers to common searches about ApplyVisa, VFS Global, UK residence, Denmark visa requirements, fees, appointments and processing time.
UK residence alone does not decide whether you need a Denmark visa. British passport holders can normally visit Denmark visa-free for permitted short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. A UK resident travelling on a passport from a visa-required nationality normally needs a Schengen visa before travel.
Denmark uses VFS Global in the UK. The official Danish guidance lists Visa Application Centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. The Embassy of Denmark in London processes UK applications; VFS receives the file and biometrics but does not decide the visa.
Normally no. Current VFS eligibility guidance requires a valid UK residence permit. If you only hold a UK short-stay C-type visitor visa, you are normally expected to apply from your country of residence unless a Danish mission accepts an exceptional reason for applying elsewhere.
Yes. Denmark requires the short-stay application and visa-fee payment to be completed online through ApplyVisa first. The Danish Embassy advises allowing up to 24 hours after completing the online application before booking the VFS appointment.
The Danish Embassy in London currently states that applications received after 8 September 2026 are processed in up to 20 days when the required documentation is complete. Cases needing further enquiries or referral can take longer, up to 45 calendar days. Transport time between VFS and the Embassy is additional.
Allow extra transport time. The Embassy currently advises adding two extra days each way for Manchester and Edinburgh, compared with one extra day each way for London, because the consular processing clock starts when the Embassy registers the application.
The standard Schengen visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6–11. VFS currently lists a separate €23 service charge per short-stay application. Applicants applying outside London also face a mandatory courier charge currently listed as €5 / £4.26. Always recheck the live fee page before paying.
A Denmark Schengen application can normally be submitted up to six months before the intended trip. The Embassy advises applying well in advance and can treat an application as inadmissible if it reaches the Embassy less than 15 calendar days before the intended travel date.
The Danish Embassy currently says a postal application through VFS may be possible if your fingerprints from an earlier Schengen visa application were recorded within the last 59 months. Follow the current VFS postal-application instructions before relying on this option.
You should apply to Denmark only when Denmark is genuinely responsible for the trip under the Schengen main-destination rules. Danish authorities specifically warn against visa-shopping, and misuse can affect entry, visa validity and future applications.
