Your travel document meets Schengen validity rules
The passport should have been issued within the last 10 years, contain the required blank pages and remain valid for at least three months beyond the planned Schengen departure.
Norway has its own UK application sequence: register and pay through the UDI portal first, then submit the printed form, passport and supporting evidence through VFS Global before the Norwegian Embassy in London assesses the file.

Nationality, legal residence in the UK and the real main destination determine whether this page fits your trip.
British citizens can normally visit Norway visa-free for permitted short stays. Many non-British UK residents still need a Schengen visitor visa because of the passport they travel on.
Norway's UK guidance says applicants using this route must legally reside here. VFS asks for evidence of UK immigration status rather than treating a short UK visit as residence.
If your trip includes several Schengen states, apply to Norway when it is the main destination by length or purpose. If no main destination can be identified, the first-entry rule can become relevant.
For other destinations on your itinerary, see these country guides:
Six checks before the UDI registration and VFS submission are treated as one consistent file.
The passport should have been issued within the last 10 years, contain the required blank pages and remain valid for at least three months beyond the planned Schengen departure.
The current Norway VFS checklist accepts a UK immigration-status share code or qualifying residence evidence and asks for validity extending at least one month beyond the intended departure from Schengen.
Norway requires the visitor-visa form to be completed through its online application portal. Print and sign the generated application form and bring the payment confirmation to VFS.
UDI currently uses a general guideline of NOK 300 per day where accommodation is prepaid or you stay with family/friends, and NOK 1,300 per day where prepaid accommodation has not been documented.
Accommodation, transport plans, occupation evidence, dates and the purpose of the visit should all support Norway as the correct destination and show a credible return to the UK.
The policy should be valid throughout the Schengen Area for the whole planned stay and provide at least €30,000 cover for medical emergencies, repatriation and related qualifying costs.
Norway combines a UDI-generated application with a UK VFS document file. Keep every date, financial figure and travel detail aligned with the same itinerary.
The current Norway UK checklist says standard and supporting documentation should be recent. If a required item is unavailable, explain why rather than silently leaving a gap.
Norway's sequence matters: the online application and fee come before the physical document submission.
Create the online application, complete the form accurately and pay the relevant visa fee through the official portal.
UDI emails the Schengen application form, application summary and payment receipt. Sign the form and organise the category checklist around it.
Attend the official VFS centre with the printed application, passport and supporting file. Biometrics are taken unless valid reusable fingerprints are already on record.
The Norwegian Embassy in London handles the visa decision. VFS then returns the passport after processing by collection or the selected courier option.
Share the trip basics and we can help organise the evidence before you submit through the official UDI and VFS route.
What you get from this enquiry
No payment is taken with this enquiry. If you want our help, we confirm the fee with you before any work starts.
Separate the Embassy decision window from the time VFS needs to move your passport and file between the application centre and London.
The UK visitor-visa page says apply well in advance because courier movement can make the total journey longer than the formal decision window.
Most cases are decided within 15 calendar days after the Norwegian Embassy in London receives the application.
If the case is sent to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration or needs additional examination, processing can extend to around 45 days.
UDI's live waiting-time page can show longer ranges when workloads change. Treat any published duration as guidance, not a guaranteed passport-return date.
Norway collects the visa fee during UDI registration. VFS charges its own service fee for receiving the application in the UK.
VFS converts applicable charges to pounds at the current exchange rate, so confirm the live sterling amount before payment. Additional optional services and passport-resubmission charges can apply separately.
The current official Norway/VFS UK route lists application centres in London and Edinburgh. VFS receives the file, while the Norwegian Embassy in London remains responsible for the visa decision.
Do not rely on third-party pages that still list Manchester for Norway. The current official Norway VFS page names London and Edinburgh.
Several Norway-specific details are easy to miss when applicants reuse a generic Schengen checklist.
Norway expects the online application and visa-fee payment before the VFS submission, with the generated form printed and signed.
The current official Norway/VFS route lists London and Edinburgh. Third-party pages may still show Manchester, so confirm against the live provider.
UDI's current guidance uses accommodation-sensitive benchmarks: NOK 300 where accommodation is prepaid or with hosts, and NOK 1,300 where it is not documented as prepaid.
Norway specifically recommends not buying the ticket until the visa has been granted. Use the required travel-plan evidence without creating unnecessary financial risk.
The published Embassy window starts after the Embassy receives the file. Courier movement and possible UDI referral can make the total timeline longer.
Answers to common searches about UDI registration, VFS submission, UK residence, sponsorship, funds, fees, documents and Norway visa processing time.
UK residence alone does not decide this. British passport holders can normally visit Norway visa-free for permitted short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. UK residents travelling on passports from visa-required countries normally need a Schengen visitor visa before travel.
Norway requires UK applications to be registered online first and then submitted through VFS Global. The current official Norway/VFS UK route lists application centres in London and Edinburgh. The Norwegian Embassy in London handles the visa application after VFS forwards it.
Yes. Norway requires the visitor-visa application to be registered online before document submission. You complete the online form, pay the visa fee, receive the application form and payment confirmation, then bring the signed printout and supporting documents to VFS.
The Norway UK guidance says you must legally reside in the UK to apply through this route. VFS also asks for proof of valid UK residence, so a short UK visit is not the normal basis for lodging a Norway Schengen application here.
UDI currently uses different daily guidelines depending on accommodation. NOK 300 per day is a general minimum when staying with family or friends or where accommodation is already paid. If accommodation has not been documented as prepaid, UDI gives NOK 1,300 per day as the general guideline, or at least NOK 1,000 per person per day for people travelling together.
Not necessarily. UDI says a sponsor is only needed when you cannot document enough money yourself. Norway also supports an electronic sponsorship and invitation route; when used, the applicant should have the sponsor code ready for the visa application.
The Norway UK page says most applications are decided within 15 calendar days after the Norwegian Embassy in London receives the application. Courier time to and from VFS is additional. Some cases are sent to UDI and can take up to 45 calendar days, so the official UK guidance recommends applying at least four weeks before travel.
The standard visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6–11, while children under 6 are normally exempt from the visa fee. VFS Global currently lists a separate €27 service fee per application in the UK. Sterling amounts can change with the exchange rate.
Norway says a visitor-visa application can normally be registered up to six months before the planned trip and should as a rule be submitted no later than 15 days before travel. The UK page recommends allowing at least four weeks because courier and processing stages add time.
Norway specifically recommends that applicants do not buy the ticket until the visa has been granted. Your file should still include the required travel plan and supporting itinerary evidence for the category you are applying under.
